Lawton wins Canada Cup

Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon wins the women’s final of the Canada Cup, 7 – 3 over Cheryl Bernard of Calgary, Sunday at The Arena in Medicine Hat.

Lawton, along with third Sherry Anderson, second Sherri Singler and lead Marliese Kasner earned $25,000 for the win, plus $3,200 for their four round robin wins, for a total of $28,200, finishing with an overall record of 7-1.

It is the second Canada Cup win for Lawton, Singler and Kasner, who also won in 2008 in Kamloops, but the first win for Anderson.

The Lawton team also earns berths into the 2011 Canada Cup, November 30-December 4 in Cranbrook, BC and the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup, January 12-15 in Langley, BC.

Bernard picks up $15,000 for finishing second, plus another $3,200 for her four round robin wins, for a total of $18,200.

Calgary’s Shannon Kleibrink finished third, earning $14,000 while Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay was fourth and received $7,400.
