Brier Bound – Manitoba

As provincial and territorial qualifying events take place across the country leading up to the 2011 Tim Hortons Brier in London, we’re keeping you up-to-date on all the latest developments. Here’s the news from Manitoba. With the conclusion of the 123rd MCA Men’s Bonspiel – held January 20-24 at numerous clubs in the Winnipeg area – the final six qualifiers have been determined for the upcoming provincial men’s playdowns. Earning entry into the 32-team field at the 2011 Safeway Championship are some of Manitoba’s more notable names along with some hungry up-and-comers.

Dave Elias and his West Kildonan foursome will make the trip to the Beausejour SunGro Centre when play gets underway from February 9-13. Also qualifying out of the MCA’s last chance spiel were Petersfield’s Dave Boehmer, Fort Rouge’s Troy Hamilton, Gimli’s Barry Sigurdson, La Salle’s Randy Neufeld and David Hamblin from the Morris Curling Club. Assiniboine Memorial’s Mike McEwen will compete in Beausejour based on his CTRS points status and should be in the thick of the fight later in the week. Two-time Brier champ Jeff Stoughton and his Charleswood quartet will be featured as will notable zone winners Randy Dutiaume, Sean Grassie, David Bohn and 1992 Canadian champion Vic Peters.
