Can Kleibrink Set a New Canada Cup Standard?

Shannon Kleibrink has the honour of skipping the first women’s team to a pair of Canada Cup championships and she’s coming to the Cranbrook Rec Plex with her sights set on number three.

Shannon Kleibrink delivers her stone at the 2009 Canada Cup of Curling in Yorkton

Kamloops was the scene of the initial victory in 2005 with the second coming four years later in Yorkton.  Stefanie Lawton matched the mark in 2010 and will be there to join Kleibrink in the elite field November 30 – December 4 to fight for the right to claim the triple crown. Kleibrink was the bronze medal recipient in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics and also came just one win shy of wearing the maple leaf in the 1998 and 2010 Olympics. With an impressive showing last season – including a fourth trip to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts – the Alberta team placed third in the Canadian Team Ranking System to earn a berth in this year’s Canada Cup.  Kleibrink will be heading to Cranbrook with the same lineup featuring Amy Nixon, Bronwen Saunders and Chelsey Bell.
