Ten Would Be Perfect for Stoughton in 2012

After nine trips to the Brier in a twenty-year competitive curling career, last year’s edition of the Canadian men’s curling championship may have been the sweetest of them all for Jeff Stoughton. When the last rocks came to a rest at the 2011 Tim Hortons Brier in London, the Winnipeg skip came away with a victory over Ontario’s Glenn Howard and a third Tankard title. Stoughton finished the round robin in a three-way tie with Brad Gushue of Newfoundland Labrador and Alberta’s Kevin Martin, all sharing 9-2 records.  An extra-end victory over Gushue in the 1-2 page playoff earned the Manitobans the bye to the final. The team moved on to claim the gold medal at the 2011 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Regina with a win over Tom Brewster of Scotland. A new season is getting ready to roll and Stoughton is back with last year’s lineup – Jon Mead, Reid Carruthers and Steve Gould – to compete for the right to represent Manitoba again in the 2012 Tim Hortons Brier March 3 – 11 in Saskatoon’s Credit Union Centre. A ticket out of their home province is no guarantee since the field is likely to include the talented Mike McEwen team that finished second in 2010/2011 Canadian Team Ranking System points… and came one win shy of taking Stoughton’s place at the Brier. “You Gotta Be There” when the best curlers in the country compete for the national championship.  Great seats are available now by clicking here.
