Guest Blogger on new Capital One Rocks & Rings Commercial: Kaitlyn Lawes!

It has been an exciting start to the curling season for our team this year. We have done lots of traveling already, and I am so thankful that one of my stops allowed me to have the opportunity to be a part of the Capital One Rocks & Rings program in Toronto and see it live in action.

It was a long day, but it was jammed packed with lots of excitement and was a ton of fun for both the kids and the instructors/teachers involved. I have to say, it was pretty exhilarating to see kids that wouldn’t necessarily have the chance to experience curling, get excited about our sport. I am a huge believer that we need to get youth involved in sport in general, but of course I am biased that curling should at the top of the list.

I really enjoy how the Capital One Rocks & Rings Program is set up to go into elementary schools and take over the kids gym class for a day. This I think is the best way to gain some younger interest in our sport and hopefully see them joining our junior programs in the future.

The kids that we worked with were all so enthusiastic and seemed to be having a ton of fun. They made my job of helping out and teaching them a little bit about curling really easy.

The day I was there was particularly special for the kids because their school was chosen to film the new Capital One Rocks and Rings Program commercial! OK, it wasn’t just exciting for the kids, I too had a lot of fun being a part of the shoot. Chad McMullan and his staff of Jillian Mouzar and Whitney Boles were fantastic! They all made me feel very welcome!

The television commercial shoot ran smoothly and was special to be a part of. I can’t wait to see these new curling superstars on TV in the upcoming commercial. Now, after experiencing the Capital One Rocks & Rings Program in person and seeing all those kids’ smiley faces, I would highly recommend it to any school out there to take part!

Happy Curling!
