Quebec, NB & Ontario Share Top Spot

Quebec’s Martin Ferland of the Club de curling Laviolette in Trois-Rivieres shares top spot after two rounds of play at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Sudbury. Ferland thumped Nunavut’s Ed Martin FerlandSattelberger 12-6 leading the way in the 14 team field at 2-0 with Ontario’s Mark Homan and New Brunswick’s Sylvie Robichaud. Homan and his Rideau CC foursome (Ottawa) defeated Brett Gallant of PEI 7-2 in eight ends and Robichaud, with a nice last stone tap back in the 10th end, edged Steve Moss of Yellowknife 6-4 to share top spot. In other second round action, Alberta’s Kurt Balderston stormed out of the gate in his first game with a 10-3 trashing of Nova Scotia’s Chris Sutherland, a game conceded after 7 seven ends.  Also playing their first game in the competition were Saskatchewan and Newfoundland & Labrador and Jason Ackerman of Regina beat Stephenville’s Gary Alcock 7-5. British Columbia, Yukon, Manitoba and Northern Ontario had second round  byes.
