New Brunswick Grabs The Final Playoff Berth

Sylvie Robichaud of Curling Beausejour in Moncton grabbed the final playoff spot at the Canadian Mixed curling championship in Sudbury.

Alberta, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick head into the Playoffs.

In a sudden death match-up against Martin Ferland of Quebec, Robichaud roared out to a 5-1 lead after three ends with two in the 1st and three in the 3rd. Ferland grabbed a single in the 4th and then stole singletons in both the 5th and 6th ends to get within one. After Robichaud took a single in the 7th, Ferland tied it up with two in the 8th. Undeterred, Robichaud took two in the 9th and kept things clean in the 10th for an 8-6 win and a spot in the semi finals against Saskatchewan. The semi final will be played at 7:00 pm Friday, November 18th. The winner of the semi final match will face Alberta’s Kurt Balderston in Saturday’s championship final. In other draw 18 action, the battle of Ontario was won by Ontario’s Mark Homan 9-7 over Thunder Bay’s Mike Assad. Homan finishes the week at 8-5 with Ferland and BC’s Doug Marshall who stopped NWT’s Steve Moss 8-5. Moss finished at 6-7. The final game of this draw saw Nova Scotia’s Chris Sutherland defeat Yukon’s Scott Hamilton 7-4. Nova Scotia sits at 4-8 while Hamilton will have to wait for Friday morning’s final draw to earn his first victory. There is a final draw to be played at 9:00 am on Friday with games between PEI vs YT, Nunavut vs Manitoba, and Nova Scotia versus Newfoundland & Labrador. These games will fill out the round robin but will not impact the playoff scenarios.
