Lawton Looking for Third Taste of the Cup

Two skips in the field for the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling have the opportunity to establish history as the first women to lead their teams to three event championships.

In a decade of Canada Cup competition, Jennifer Jones and Stefanie Lawton have each hoisted the trophy twice – Jones in 2005 and 2011 and Lawton in 2008 and 2010.

Lawton returns for the 2012 edition November 28-December 2 in Moose Jaw’s Mosaic Place, qualifying on the merit of a fifth-place finish in the Canadian Team Ranking System at the conclusion of last season’s play.  She will be accompanied by third Sherry Anderson, second Sherry Singler and lead Marliese Kasner.

The Saskatchewan skip broke onto the competitive scene in 2000 with a win at the Canadian Junior Women’s Curling Championship followed by a silver medal at the World Junior Women’s Curling Championship.

Lawton represented the prairie province at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2005 and again in 2009 in Victoria where she lost the 3 vs 4 Page playoff to Jones who would carry on to win the women’s national curling title for a third time.
