Yukon Wins the Battle of the Territories

Steve Fecteau of Whitehorse in the Yukon,  dumped Ed Sattelberger of Nunavut 10-4 to earn the final berth in the full round robin of the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Montréal. Fecteau made good use of the hammer in the opening end with a score of two followed up by another deuce in the 3rd end to jump ahead 4-1. After a Nunavut single point in the 4th end, Fecteau scored three in the 5th end heading to the break up 7-2. The Iqaluit foursome countered with a much needed two points in the 6th end to keep their hopes alive, however the Yukon skip countered with two in the 7th end. A meaningless steal of one point in the 8th frame ended the match. The Whitehorse CC foursome of Fecteau, Helen Strong, Wade Scoffin and Patty Wallingham will join NS’ Brent MacDougall as the two survivors of the pre-qualifying round. The full event featuring 12 teams begins Saturday, November 17th at 6:30 pm at the Town of Mount Royal Curling Club. Play will continue all week with the championship final scheduled for Saturday, November 24th at 2:00 pm. Real time results can be viewed at www.curling.ca
