Devereaux Books a Trip to the Scotties

The battle at the Bally Haly Golf and Curling Club in St. John’s came to a close January 20 when Newfoundland/Labrador declared its representatives for the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts – the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship – February 16-24 in Kingston. Stacie Devereaux and Heather Strong, both members of the Bally Haly club, faced off three times on home ice during the provincial playdowns.  Devereaux won two out of the three, with the most important victory coming in the Sunday evening championship final.

Devereaux, along with teammates Erin Porter, Lauren Wasylkiw and Heather Martin, rolled through the round robin with an unblemished record, including a crucial win over Strong on the Thursday evening draw. Strong, a 10-time contender at the Scotties, was forced to take two games in a row against Devereaux in the playoffs to move on for another appearance on the national stage. The team came through with a 10-5 win in the first match, but fell short by an 8-7 count in the final. Devereaux represented Newfoundland/Labrador at the Canadian Junior Women’s Curling Championship four times, winning the gold medal in 2007.  She made her first trip to the Scotties in 2011. “You Gotta Be There” when Kingston hosts the best women’s teams in the country for the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in the K-Rock Centre.  Get your seats now by clicking here.
