Cool Shots gets hot in Victoria

The Host Committee for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, March 30-April 7 in Victoria’s Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, will be presenting a Cool Shots Tournament for the fans, three weeks prior to the start of the big event. The tournament takes place the weekend of March 9-10 at the Hillside Centre, an official sponsor of the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship. A $500 Hillside gift card will be presented to the winning team. “We hope to see some big crowds come out to take part in the competition,” said Host Co-Chair Keith Dagg. “Cool Shots is so much fun… and this is a great way to keep building the excitement in the community for the upcoming world championship.” Cool Shots is the small-scale version of the roaring game, played on shuffleboard-style tables designed to allow the rocks to actually curl.

The tournament will feature teams of two players, throwing four rocks apiece, in a single-elimination playoff format. The competition hits the boards Saturday, March 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the finals on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. Register your team at the Hillside Customer Service booth or online at the Cool Shots page at curling.ca/worlds. The entry deadline is March 1. The draw will be emailed to all teams and posted online March 4. Questions relating to registration should be directed to [email protected]. Ford World Men’s media partner KOOL FM will also be involved in the competition with broadcast promotions and an information link on its website. “You Gotta Be There” for all the action when the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship returns to Victoria.
