Two In A Row for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia & Ontario

Wayne Tallon and his Capital Winter Club of Fredericton foursome posted their second consecutive win with a 7-4 victory over hometown favourite Rod MacDonald at the 2013 Canadian Senior Men’s Curling Championship at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside, PEI. Tallon skips the game and delivers third stones leaving the last stone chore to Mike Kennedy. They scored a deuce with the hammer in the 1st end followed up by another score of two in the 4th end to lead 4-3 with hammer heading to the 6th end. A single there followed by a steal of one in the 7th had them three up playing the 9th. MacDonald had a difficult shot for two in the 9th end but was light and scored only one. The last end was not simple for Tallon as Kennedy had to draw to the four foot against two PEI counters which he did successfully. PEI drops to 1-1. Nova Scotia continues their strong play having won for consecutive games: two in the pre-qualifier and now two in the regular round robin. Alan O’Leary and his CFB Halifax team played a solid game against BC’s Craig Lepine despite being down 4-1 at the 5th end break. The Bluenosers took a pair in the 6th, then stole singles in the 8th and 9th. They finished up with a steal of two in the 10th as Lepine had a near impossible shot to tie the game. The final score was 8-4. BC sits at 1-1. Ontario’s Howard Rajala triumphed in the annual Ontario vs. Northern Ontario challenge holding off Bruce Munro and his Sudbury quartet 8-5. The game was close with Ontario leading by a single playing the 9th. Munro just missed a raise take-out that would have blanked the end, now heading home down two with last stone advantage. A  number of great shots were made leaving Munro a tough hit and roll for the tie. It was not to be for Munro and Northern Ontario drops to 0-2. In other games, Alberta’s Wade White made a terrific double take-out to edge Robbie Maclean’s foursome 7-6. The double had to be made perfectly or it would have been a steal for Québec. Alberta is at 1-1 and Québec drops to 0-2. Manitoba’s Bob Sigurdson had little trouble with Glen Hudy of Yellowknife. The NWT crew gave up a four ender and a pair of three counts to lose 12-3. Manitoba is 1-1 while Hudy drops to 0-2. Saskatchewan’s Gord Bell jumped into the win column with a solid 7-3 win over NL’s Glenn Goss. The St. John’s team were chasing the entire game falling behind 4-1 after six ends. A steal of one in the 8th brought them to within one, however, Bell put it away with a nice score of three in the 9th end for a 7-3 win. Both teams are 1-1.
