Another win moves Homan into tie for second place

Rachel Homan maintained Canada’s win streak at the world women’s curling championship in Riga, Latvia, calmly drawing the four-foot to defeat Russia’s Anna Sidorova 5-4 on Monday morning. Homan and her Ottawa team – Emma Miskew, Alison Kreviazuk and Lisa Weagle, with alternate Stephanie LeDrew and coach Earl Morris – now sit 3-1 in the standings, their only loss coming to Scotland’s Eve Muirhead in the opening game of the competition. Since then, Canada has won three straight and is tied with Scotland and Switzerland for second place behind Sweden (4-0). In a mostly defensive game, Canada opened the scoring with a steal in the second end. Facing two Canadian rocks on the four-foot, Sidorova came up short on her final rock. But the Russians got their single in the third, and stole in the fifth when Homan wrecked on a draw against five. Sidorova stole again in the seventh, and the teams traded points late in the game. Tied 4-4 in the tenth, Homan used hammer to draw for her single and the 5-4 win.
