Sonnenberg hoping for new role at Sochi

Renée Sonnenberg represented Alberta at the Canadian Junior Women’s Curling Championship in 1989 and 1990 before moving up the competitive ranks to compete twice in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, as well as the 2001 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The skip from Grande Prairie, who represented Alberta at the Scotties in 1999 and 2001, gained an inside perspective of the Olympic experience in 2010, serving as coach for the Danish women’s team skipped by Angelina Jensen. When the 2013 Capital One Road to the Roar, presented by Monsanto, hits the ice Nov. 5-10 in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex, Sonnenberg will be vying for the right to take part in the next Olympics as a competitor. Along with teammates Lawnie MacDonald, Cary-Anne McTaggart and Rona Pasika, she will be part of the 24-team field that will battle for the final two women’s and men’s berths in the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, presented by Monsanto, Dec. 1-8 in Winnipeg where Canada will crown our 2014 Olympic representatives. “You Gotta Be There” for all the drama and excitement of live championship curling, when 24 teams take their last shot at Olympic glory.
