Kean ready to roar in Kitchener

Mark Kean is part of the ‘Ontario 10’ – the seven men’s and three women’s teams that will compete in the 2013 Capital One Road to the Roar, presented by Monsanto, Nov. 5-10 in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex. The qualifying event for the 2013 Canadian Curling Trials has come to be known by many as ROARTARIO, based on the heavy content of Ontario curlers in the running for the final two men’s and women’s spots in the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, presented by Monsanto, Dec. 1-8 in Winnipeg. Kean will be leading his young Toronto team into Kitchener with some momentum on their side. A successful weekend at the recent Prairie Classic in Portage la Prairie finished with a quarterfinal loss to Brock Virtue. And at the World Curling Tour’s 2012 Canadian Open, the team bowed out in the semifinal to provincial rival Glenn Howard who moved on to win the championship. The Kean foursome includes Travis Fanset, Patrick Janssen and Tim March. Third Fanset skipped Team Ontario to a silver medal at the 2008 Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championship. “You Gotta Be There” when 24 teams – 12 men’s and 12 women’s – come to Kitchener with the hopes of keeping the Olympic dream alive.
