Winnipeg’s Ready to Roar

The Host Committee for the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings – heading to Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, December 1-8 – today announced the release of full event passes for the epic showdown that will determine the two teams Canada sends on to represent our country at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

The Old Classic full event pass has been introduced first as a courtesy to the vast number of curling fans that want to reserve the best seats in the house for all 18 draws. It includes 14 draws of round robin action plus the men’s and women’s semi-finals and finals on championship weekend at a price of $429.

This package also comes with an earlybird bonus – a pair of tickets to one of the first two draws on opening weekend – wrapped in with every full event pass purchased before December 24.

The Old Classic Earlybird will be on sale to the public Monday, November 19 at 10:00 am Central Standard Time.

Then, starting December 6, curling fans will have the opportunity to put some “rocks in their socks”. The $39 package, consisting of a pair of tickets to one of the first two draws Sunday, December 1, 2013, is a perfect stocking-stuffer for the upcoming holiday season.

“We really want to open up the experience of live championship curling to new fans of the game,” said Host Chair Mitch Tarapasky. “The early bird bonus and Rocks in Your Socks promotions give them the chance to be there for one of curling’s most prestigious events at a very affordable price.”

The new Flex Mini Pack priced at $469 will be introduced in February, 2013 for fans that want to tailor their own personal ticket package. Customers can pick the draws they really want to see at the times that work best for their schedule.

Ticket packages can be purchased online or by phone at 1-877-985-2875.

“This is home to so many of the greatest legends of the game,” said Host Chair Mitch Tarapasky. “Dating back to the days of Howard Wood and Ken Watson and continuing through to modern day champions such as Kerry Burtnyk, Jeff Stoughton and Jennifer Jones… we’re used to winners in Winnipeg and we’re extremely excited to have the opportunity to crown our next Olympians.”

Every Old Classic package comes with an exclusive invitation to Fan Appreciation Night where all the athletes will meet with the fans the evening prior to the start of competition.

It also includes complimentary admission to the weeklong celebration at curling’s party place in the Patch featuring a great selection of food and beverages and high-charged entertainment featuring some of the hottest bands in the land. The Patch will be just a short, all indoor walk away at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

Plus, fans have the opportunity to meet with the players face-to-face at Team Autograph Sessions and Up Close and Personal Interviews and take a shot at a championship of their own in the Cool Shots competition… the tabletop version of the roaring game with cash prizes on the line!

The 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings will feature 16 of the top teams in the country including eight men’s and eight women’s. Four have already been determined: Kevin Martin and Jennifer Jones qualified with victories at the 2011 Capital One Canada Cup along with 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Heather Nedohin and 2012 Tim Hortons Brier winner Glenn Howard.

One more team of each gender is destined to qualify at the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup in Moose Jaw, November 28-December 2. But only if they win the event outright. Should a previously-qualified team win the Capital One Canada Cup, all points earned will default to the Canadian Team Ranking System.

Three men’s and three women’s qualifiers will be decided on the basis of the Canadian Team Ranking System standings at the conclusion of the season.
The final two teams of each gender will earn their shot at Olympic gold during the 2013 Capital One Road to the Roar, November 5-10 in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium – an event featuring 12 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams.

Fans looking for smaller ticket packages will have to wait until next fall. Mini packs will go on sale in October 2013, followed by single draw tickets in November.
