Roar of the Rings volunteers spring into action

The 2012-2013 competitive curling season may be drawing to a close, but for Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings volunteers, it’s getting to be a busy time of the year.

The 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, presented by Monsanto, will be heading to Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, Dec. 1-8 and there’s plenty of work to be done before the city hosts the Canadian Curling Trials.

The first Volunteer Rally, scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at MTS Centre, provides the opportunity for everyone to be fitted for official uniforms, photographed for accreditation and receive briefings from event directors.

“We also plan on making it an entertaining day for the volunteers,” said Host Chair Mitch Tarapasky. “We’ll have a display featuring Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame memorabilia, and some of the best curlers in the province on hand to sign autographs.”

The autograph schedule presently includes the Chelsey Carey, Mike McEwen and Jeff Stoughton teams, as well as Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin from the Jennifer Jones team, Matt Dunstone’s 2013 Canadian junior men’s curling champs and two-time Brier winner Kerry Burtnyk.

The promotions crew has been on the road promoting the Trials, with a recent appearance at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, March 25-30 in Brandon. A busy summer schedule is in the works with plans to attend a number of golf tournaments and festivals around the province – including the Morris Stampede, Altona’s Sunflower Festival, the Winkler Harvest Festival, Morden’s Corn and Apple Festival and the Scottish Pavilion at Folklorama.
