Generous donors make scholarships possible!

Thanks to the incredible support of the curling community, “For the Love of Curling” scholarships are now available for young elite curlers. Do you know a deserving young curler? Are you a student who could use some help covering your academic and curling costs next season? The application process for the “For the Love of Curling” scholarships is now open to talented young curlers who will be enrolling or continuing to study at a Canadian university or college. These scholarships were funded by generous Canadians who purchased a “Got Gold?” T-shirt during the March campaign. “We were blown away by people’s generosity during the Got Gold? campaign,” said Greg Stremlaw, Chief Executive Officer for the Canadian Curling Association. “Our original goal was to sell 600 T-shirts and provide six scholarships. When Canadian curling fans bought more than 1,000 T-shirts, we were thrilled that even more young curlers would be helped.” Each scholarship will provide $1,000 to help university or college athletes cover some of their education and curling costs. A total of 10 scholarships are available for the 2014-2015 academic year. Emphasis will be placed on athletes who have competed at the provincial/territorial level or higher and who have maintained a good level of academic standing while showing a commitment to curling through their involvement in coaching, instructing and/or volunteer activities. The application process runs from May 12 to June 30, 2014. Scholarships will be awarded by Aug. 15.
