A new face for Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier
- Updated: February 4, 2014
For the first time in nine years, Team Ontario will have someone other than Glenn Howard throwing skip stones at the Canadian men’s curling championship. Instead, Greg Balsdon will lead his Hamilton squad in the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier, March 1-9 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops.
Howard, who claimed two Tankards and a pair of world championships during his eight-year reign, crashed on a guard with his final stone to give up the winning point in the provincial final, Feb. 2 in Smith Falls.
Balsdon, part of the Cory Heggestad team that won the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, will be making his first appearance at the Tim Hortons Brier with teammates Mark Bice, Tyler Morgan and Jamie Farnell.
In the 2011 season, Balsdon was defeated by Howard in the final match of the provincial playdowns.
