Nine straight titles for Gushue

The outcome of the Newfoundland/Labrador provincial men’s curling championship, Feb. 2 at the Bally Haly Curling Club in St. John’s, mirrored the results of the past eight years.

Once again, Brad Gushue came out on top to earn an 11th appearance at the Canadian men’s curling championship. Gushue, and teammates Brett Gallant, Adam Casey and Geoff Walker, move on to compete in the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier, presented by SecurTek, March 1-9 in Kamloops’ Interior Savings Centre.

The 2006 Olympic gold-medallist downed Colin Thomas 6-2 in the final to clinch the provincial title. The team boasted an undefeated record in the playdowns, extending Gushue’s winning streak to 31-0 in Newfoundland/Labrador championship play over the past five years.
