Edin holds golden hand coming into Vegas

Niklas Edin, the reigning world men’s curling champion, is on his way to Las Vegas for the 2014 World Financial Group Continental Cup, Jan. 16-19 at the Orleans Arena.

In his third consecutive appearance for Sweden at the international showdown, Edin defeated Team Canada’s Brad Jacobs in the gold-medal match of the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Victoria, B.C. The Swedes won bronze medals in 2011 and 2012.

The Edin foursome, including third Sebastian Kraupp, second Fredrik Lindberg and lead Victor Kjäll, will defend their 2012 European Curling Championship title Nov. 22-30 in Norway, prior to making the trip to Las Vegas for the World Financial Group Continental Cup.

A month later, they will travel to Sochi, Russia, to represent Sweden at the 2014 Olympic Games

The 28-year-old got his first taste of gold at the 2004 World Junior Men’s Curling Championship. In 2009, he led his team to titles in both the Winter Universiade (Winter University Games) and European Curling Championships.

The Edin team will be part of the Team World roster that takes on Team North America in Ryder Cup-style competition, recognized as the most unique event in the curling world.
