One of the neater traditions of the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors are the three Parent Nights staged each year by the families of the competitors.

There are three nights in 2014, each held at the Royal Canadian Legion (Liverpool)

Monday, January 20th @ 9:00 pm hosted by BC, AB, SK, YT & NT

Tuesday, January 21st @ 9:00 pm hosted by MB, NO, ON, NU & QC

Wednesday, January 22nd @ 9:00 pm hosted by NB, NS, PE & NL

Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2014 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Curling Junior Championships!
Congratulations, the Junior Curler in your family and their Team are heading to Liverpool, Nova Scotia for the 2014 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Curling Championships, January 18-26. The Host Committee has been planning for the arrival of the Players, and hopefully yours as a parent, for the past three years and really looking forward to welcoming you to our ‘house’.

The Host community is Liverpool within Queens County, Nova Scotia on the southern coast straddling the Mersey River on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Our historic seaport will be transformed into Championship Central for the 11 days that the players are in our community.

We expect you have many questions about the host community, Championship related events and more. While the CCA will provide each of the Players a Players Championship Handbook, we have prepared the following in attempt to provide you as Parents with additional information in preparation for the Championships. Please peruse the information below and of course if you have any questions your Host Committee is here to help!

We understand that each province will appoint a parent as the point person for the accompanying parents so we can ensure the most effective and efficient flow of information to/from the Host Committee.

Getting to Liverpool, Nova Scotia For those arriving by air, the Halifax International Airport is your gateway to Nova Scotia. Liverpool is located approximately 150kms (90 minutes) from the Airport/Halifax off Highway 103, Exit 19. Ground transportation to Liverpool is by vehicle.

Please note that the “Tartan Team”, a Volunteer Team at the Airport are aware of this event and will welcome the Players, as well as any parents/spectators arriving through the airport. While there are a variety of Car Rental Companies available at the Airport, for your convenience, the Host Committee has partnered with Thrifty Car Rental to secure 10% Discount for 2014 parents/spectators. Venues & Draw Schedule for Championship
The Championships will be played in 2 venues, Queens Place Emera Centre (B) with 5 sheets and the Liverpool Curling Club (A) with 3 sheets. Both venues are located in Liverpool, about 1.53kms apart from each other.

The Draw Schedule can be viewed online at Athletes will be arriving Jan. 16th, practicing on Jan. 17th with Draws beginning Jan. 18th and running through until Jan. 26th with the Championships will taking place at 4:00pm Atlantic Time on each Sat. Jan. 25 for the Womens and Sun. Jan. 26 for the Mens. The Championship Finals are televised live on TSN.

Tickets for Championship & Closing Banquet
An ‘All Event Access Pass’ along with ticket packages are available for the Championship enabling pass holders to attend all Draws throughout the 9 day event, including the Mixed Doubles. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at

The Players Banquet is a Taste of Nova Scotia experience being hosted by the CCA and the Host Committee on Friday January 24th at 7:30pm at the West Queens Recreation Centre in Port Mouton, just outside of Liverpool. Seating is limited to 330 for this event. The Host Committee recognizes that Parents are interested in this event and has restricted advance reservation of these tickets on a first come first serve basis to Parents only until Jan. 22. Email with Banquet Tickets in the subject line to reserve your tickets. Ticket payments will be taken during the Championship at the Juniors Information Desk at Queens Place Emera Centre up to January 22, 2014.

There are a variety of accommodation rates/choices for parents/spectators from B&B’s, to Inns and Hotels in the Liverpool area and reaching into Bridgewater (30 kms drive away). Host Property for the Players
White Point Beach Resort is the host property for the 2014 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Curling Junior Championship. CCA coordinates and covers accommodation and transportation for the Players while at the Championship. White Point is a unique experience, located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, on White Point Beach. Players will be staying within guestrooms and cottages. Each Team is provided with 3 rooms for the Players and coach. The Players will have access to the entire property and all recreation facilities during their stay which includes the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, fitness room, Games Room and Players Lounge. Please note complimentary wi-fi and a public access computer is available onsite.

Meals for the Players
We know that meals are important part of the Championship. Keeping in mind that meals are covered by the Players themselves, the Host Committee has worked with partners to ensure a variety of options throughout the Championship. At each Queens Place Emera Centre and the Liverpool Curling Club, meals will be available for Lunch and Dinner. There are also a variety of restaurants in the immediate area offering Championship Specials (this information will be provided upon arrival).

At White Point, the Players Lounge located on the Lower Level of the Main Lodge, will feature M&M Meat Shops Meals that Players can easily access from the fridge to be prepared in the microwave provided from 6:30am-9pm. This is a complimentary service provided by M&M Meat Shops as sponsors of the Championship, and supported by team onsite at White Point.

White Point will also be providing Championship Meal options, including a daily Breakfast Buffet in Elliot’s Dining Room offered 6:30am – 9:30am, $10 plus tax. Lunch and Dinner Specials will also be available from 12noon-8pm daily at $10/meal throughout the Championship in addition to the regular Menu. Additionally Meal Plans are also available.

Memorabilia & Official Souvenirs
The CCA with their partner Event Max has been working with the Host Committee who will offer a 2014 Souvenir and Memorabilia Store onsite at Queens Place Emera Centre that will be open daily from Jan. 18-26. This will include a variety of items with the official M&M Meat Shops Canadian Curling Junior Championship, including Sweatshirts with all Team Names, hats, t-shirts, pins, Official Program and so much more. Cash, Debit and Credit Card will be accepted at this on-site Store.

Parents Nights
In keeping with annual tradition, it is our understanding that there are three evening gatherings that attending Parents host to celebrate being at the Championship and get to know each other and their region through the performance of skits, entertainment and more. Parents Nights are not the responsibility of the CCA nor the Host Committee, however in keeping with tradition, we know that it falls to the attending Parents to plan and create an experience for the others. After consulting with the CCA and past Hosting Communities, for your convenience, the Host Committee has secured and will cover the rental cost of the Liverpool Royal Canadian Legion as the host venue with kitchen facilities, stage, PA System, Cash Bar and provision of LCD/Screen if needed. This venue is centrally located in Liverpool, off the waterfront with ample parking.

In the past, hosting Parents have come prepared with an ‘entertainment’ presentation and brought food from their respective regions to be showcased and sampled during the evening as finger foods. In support of these ‘finger food’ efforts, the Host Committee has secured $1000 Sponsors for each of the three nights. The coordinating Parents will be provided Gift Cards to sponsoring Grocery Stores to secure the additional food supplies. Please note that food preparation and hosting of these Parents Nights are the responsibility of the Parents hosting the evening. Parents often connect and communicate prior to arriving at the Championship so they are ready to host a successful evening.

Championship Festival
We know that you have come for the curling, but invite you to experience our community during your stay. We have created a Championship Festival that complements the Draw Schedule. You can expect Nightly Pub Nights, Dances, and Kitchen Parties. By day, plan to take in “Artspiel” a Showcase of local Artists demonstrating throughout Businesses, Art Shows, head to our Museums, and maybe hit a trail or beach too. Of course there will be plenty to eat as well. In addition to Seafood Chowder Luncheons, and
Cafés, there’s a Lobster Luncheon, and Championship Specials offered at our local Restaurants. The complete Championship Festival Schedule and locator map will be available online in January and available in print from the Juniors Information Desk at Queens Place Emera Centre.
