The Host Committee for the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, heading to Montreal’s Maurice-Richard Arena, Feb. 1-9, presented a Learn to Curl day for the local media, Nov. 30 at the Montreal West Curling Club.
Representatives of the CJAD/CHOM/TSN690 radio group, CTV and the Suburban and Gazette newspapers received an introduction to the roaring game from an extremely talented team of instructors.
It included Scotties event manager Neil Houston – a former Canadian and world champion – eight-time Scottes representative Marie-France Larouche, Allison Ross and Brittany O’Rourke from the 2013 Team Quebec, and their new teammate, Melissa Gannon.
Also taking part were Guy Hemmings, four-time representative for Quebec at the Brier, the Canadian men’s curling champions, Andrew Carter, a local morning show host who has competed at three Briers and former NHL referee Stephane Auger.
After sampling the snacks and refreshments, the group formed teams for a few games on the ice. The media crew came out of the day with a new appreciation for the skills of the athletes!
