Teams set for Seniors Finals in Yellowknife

The teams are set for the finals of the 2014 Canadian Senior Curling Championships taking place in Yellowknife, N.W.T., and both Manitoba men’s and women’s teams will be playing for gold. Lois Fowler and her team of Maureen Bonar, Cathy Gauthier and Allyson Stewart from the Brandon Curling Club finished the round robin in first place and moved directly into the final. She will meet Saskatchewan’s Lorraine Arguin, DondaLee Deis, Shelly Urquhart and Connie Fritzler of the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, who won 7-4 over Ontario’s Marilyn Bodogh in Friday’s semifinal. On the men’s side, Manitoba’s Kelly Robertson, Doug Armour, Peter Prokopowich and Bob Scales won their semifinal over Northern Ontario’s Robbie Gordon 10-8 to advance to the final against Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary, Andrew Dauphinee, Danny Christianson and Harold McCarthy of the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The winners of the 2014 Canadian Seniors will represent Canada at the 2015 World Senior Curling Championships, at a site and date to be announced by the World Curling Federation. Last year’s Canadian champions, skipped by Colleen Pinkney of Truro, N.S., and Wayne Tallon of Fredericton, N.B., are competing in this year’s World Seniors, April 23-30 at Dumfries, Scotland. Since the World Seniors began in 2002, Canada has won eight men’s and nine women’s titles. Draw results for the 2014 Canadian Seniors will be instantly available at www.curling.ca.
