Ford World Women’s hitting new heights

Volunteers for the 2014 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, were on the scene for the 28th edition of the Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta, Sept. 6-8 in Sussex, New Brunswick.
The town is situated just down the road from Saint John, where another international classic will get underway March 15 – 23 when the best women’s teams in the game compete in Harbour Station for world curling supremacy.
With 30 hot air balloons taking to the skies twice daily, along with midway rides and all kinds of family entertainment, the event attracts in the neighborhood of 45,000 visitors to the community each year. And the promotions team was right in the middle of all the action, making sure everyone knows about the upcoming world championship.
The Ford World Women’s ambassadors were back on duty the following weekend for the Charlotte County Fair, another longstanding tradition in the Saint John region. The event features an array of produce, crafts and vendors in a unique celebration of the local rural culture.
After a busy month on the promotions circuit, more than 250 volunteers gathered Sept. 19 at the Diamond Jubilee Cruise Ship terminal for the first volunteer rally, leading up to the 2014 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.
All the hard-working volunteers had the opportunity to meet with event directors and fellow volunteers… and enjoy a tasty selection of food and refreshments. Host Chair Jeff Lacey and City Councillor Greg Norton, filling in for Mayor Mel Norton, were on hand to express their appreciation to volunteers for their contributions to what promises to be the city’s biggest event of the year.
