Nominations to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame are submitted to Curling Canada, which selects inductees it feels meet the criteria in one of four categories – curler, builder, curler/builder and team.

With the exception of Curling Canada Past Chairs, to be considered, candidates must be 45 years of age or older as of January 1st preceding the annual Hall of Fame announcement.

Curling Canada shall receive nominations from curling clubs that are members of Curling Canada, the Provincial/Territorial Associations, past and present members of the Board of Governors of the Curling Canada, or the Association of Canadian Curling Reporters.

All nominations shall be made in writing to the Curling Canada office, and shall contain the fullest possible information, including a colour picture (head and shoulders – 300 DPI), the dates and records of the merits of each candidate.

Deadline for nomination is December 31 in any given year.

Induction to the Curling Canada Curling Hall of Fame is the highest honour bestowed by Curling Canada.

Classification of Members

There shall be four (4) categories of membership and enrollment in the Curling Hall of Fame, namely:

Executive Honour Roll

1.Past Chairs of Curling Canada shall automatically be inducted to the Hall of Fame as Executive Honour Roll. Their induction will occur at the AGM immediately following their term as Chair unless they continue to serve as a Curling Canada Governor. In this case, they will be automatically inducted at the AGM immediately following their term with Curling Canada. Canadian citizens who achieve status of President of the World Curling Federation (WCF) shall be inducted to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame as Executive Honour Roll immediately following their term as President. Canadian citizens – from the sport of curling – who achieve status as International Olympic Committee (IOC) or International Paralympic Committee (IPC) member or President of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) shall be inducted to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame as Executive Honour Roll immediately following their term. They shall receive the personal memento, certificate and the pin.

Curler

2. Curler is defined as a competitor or participant, including teams, recognized by Curling Canada.

Builder

3. Builder is defined as any individual who has made a major contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada, and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, may include officials, managers, trainers, Curling Canada certified coaches, administrators and executives of clubs, groups or associations, media personnel and sponsors.

Curler/Builder

4. Curler/Builder is defined as any individual who has combined competition and participation in amateur curling with continued interest and contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada.

Eligibility

The following criteria will be taken into consideration when determining eligibility for induction to the Curling Hall of Fame:

• Curlers and/or teams attaining the following criteria shall be considered for induction:
  1. Winner of three (3) Briers or Tournament of Hearts (the team would be inducted as long as it is the same four players each time. If not, the individuals will be inducted).
  2. Winner of four (4) Canadian Championships as long as the four titles includes at least one men’s or women’s title. The exception would be anyone collecting four senior championships.
  3. Winner of three (3) World Curling Championships (must include at least two (2) men’s or women’s world titles). The exception would be anyone collecting three (3) sanctioned world senior championships or three (3) world wheelchair championships or three (3) World Mixed Doubles Championships.
  4. Winner of two (2) World Curling Championships and one (1) Olympic games. (These criteria must include one (1) men’s or women’s world title.) Curler candidates shall be chosen on the basis of their playing ability, sportsmanship and character. Candidates will have achieved extraordinary distinction and a high level of excellence in amateur curling in Canada or internationally, having performed in such a way as to bring honour to the sport of curling in Canada.
  5. Winner of two (2) World Wheelchair Curling Championships and one (1) Paralympic Games. Curler candidates shall be chosen on the basis of their playing ability, sportsmanship and character. Candidates will have achieved extraordinary distinction and a high level of excellence in amateur curling in Canada or internationally, having performed in such a way as to bring honour to the sport of curling in Canada. Eligible teams will be inducted with their coaches and alternates assuming they were involved in all of the criteria.
• Builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the National level. This may include persons who have served as officers of national or provincial/territorial organizations and, in their capacities, have rendered exceptional service to the sport of curling. It also includes those apart from these capacities (including Curling Canada certified coaches) that, by their assistance, sponsorship or other valuable contribution have furthered the development of the sport of curling.
• Curler/builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of achievement as a participant in amateur curling and contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the national level. This combination is recognized as worthy for election to the Curling Hall of Fame.
• A person, resident outside of Canada or not a Canadian citizen, who has given outstanding service to the sport of curling may be chosen, provided such service, international in nature, has a special application to the effect of the sport in Canada.
• Nominations in any one of subsections 2. (1), (a) to (e) inclusive of this Section may include the names of persons living or deceased, and who are or have been residents of Canada, and whose qualifications can comply with the eligibility rules herein provided.
• Curler/Builder candidates may be either active or inactive in curling at the time of nomination.
• Members of the Curling Canada Board of Governors, Officers, Staff and/or members of the Hall of Fame and Awards Committee shall not be eligible for election to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame while serving in office.
• Candidates (with the exception of Curling Canada Past Chairs, WCF Past Presidents, IOC / IPC Members, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee and Teams) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at age 45. To be considered, they must be 45 years of age or older as of January 1st preceding the annual Hall of Fame announcement.
• Curling Canada Past Chairs, WCF Past Presidents, IOC Members, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee:
  1. Their induction will occur at the Curling Canada AGM immediately following their term as President / Member.
  2. Exception: should the Curling Canada Past Chair continue to serve as a Curling Canada Governor, they will be automatically inducted at the AGM immediately following their term with Curling Canada.
• Teams: Teams meeting the criteria in A) (1) i-iv shall be inducted seven (7) years after they become eligible.

Elections Posthumous

• Any person who shall die between the date of their election to the Curling Hall of Fame and the date of induction shall be duly enrolled posthumously.
• A deceased person may be a candidate for election to the Curling Hall of Fame and, if so elected, shall be enrolled posthumously.

Hall of Fame and Awards Committee

• The Hall of Fame and Awards Committee shall be appointed by the Curling Canada Board of Governors and shall consist of three (3) Curling Canada Governors who are knowledgeable in the history, traditions, accomplishments, abilities, skill, achievements and contributions of “Curlers” and “Builders”, and whose judgment and integrity are most likely to ensure the fair and impartial assessment of the qualities of the candidates submitted for their consideration.
• To ensure the maintenance of a very high standard of excellence in the selections, the chairman of the Hall of Fame and Awards Committee reserves the right to name additional non-voting members to the committee who are knowledgeable in the history of the sport of curling.
• Each member of the Committee shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years, on a rotating basis.
• The Committee shall determine its own rules of procedure, provided, however, wherever possible, Robert’s Rules of Order are followed.
• In the event of the death or resignation of a member of the Hall and Fame and Awards Committee, the Board of Governors shall forthwith fill the vacancy and the individual so appointed shall complete the term of their predecessor.
• All reasonable expenses of the Committee as authorized by the Board of Governors shall be paid by Curling Canada.
