2010 Medals – Wow! Ursel & Jones – Big Wins last Weekend

Has anything screamed Canada like the new 2010 Olympic medals do?  Maybe it is just me but I think they have hit a homerun with the design.   They have truly pioneered a new trail with the design and ensured for years post 2010 the medals will be instantly recognizable. Here they are: VANOC - 2010 Medals Let’s refocus and try to talk about some of the teams on the Olympic trail this past weekend.  URSEL!! Where have these guys come from?  They have arguably been BC’s top men’s team for a few years now and those on tour know how tough they can be to play, however, this is definitely their hottest start to date and not bad timing with that big bonspiel they have planned!!  With two wins and a second place finish, they are looking quite strong.   Strong can also be used to help describe their playoff run this past weekend in Vancouver when they beat Pat Simmons, Kevin Martin and then Sean Geal with a collective score of 21-3!  Take the $20,000 top prize and those boys must really be loving life right now!  Here is a picture of Team Ursel in action, from the Vancouver Sun:

Bob is in the background shooting and front end Kevin Folk (yes that Folk family) and Rick Sawatsky are sweeping.   Fourth rock thrower, Jim Cotter, we assume is holding the brush! On the women’s side Jennifer Jones one the first women’s Grand Slam in Calgary.  Calgary is a 32 team womens event sponsored by Trail Appliances.  Rumour has it they are looking for a new title sponsor for next year if anyone has some connections!!  Congrats to Jennifer and her team.  After losing their first game they went on a tear and qualified.  They faced Team China in the finals and took a commanding lead with 3 points in the first end, and they truly controlled the game thereafter.  If you’re counting that is two events for Team Jones and two wins!  Not bad at all!! This weekend provides a little bit of rest with a few smaller events going on, both men and women have a grand slam next weekend.   Stay posted!! Yours in curling, Paul
