Canada Cup Cast is “As Good As It Gets”!

The “Cup” is filling up fast with the brightest stars on our country’s curling scene, all preparing to hit the ice in the first elite event on the Season of Champions schedule. The 2010 Canada Cup, December 1 – 5 in Medicine Hat, will feature the game’s top 20 teams — 10 men’s and 10 women’s — in a field that represents the “who’s who” of the competitive circuit. Leading the way for the men are Canada’s Olympic gold medalists skipped by Kevin Martin, making their first Season of Champions appearance in their home province following the Vancouver games.

The Olympians will be joined by the Kevin Koe team, winners of the 2010 Tim Horton’s Brier and the Capital One Men’s World Curling Championship.  The other confirmed qualifiers at this stage are Glenn Howard with Wayne Middaugh at third, and 2006 Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue with Randy Ferbey throwing third stones, and Mike McEwen from Manitoba. On the women’s side, Cheryl Bernard’s Olympic silver medal winning team will be shooting for the Canada Cup at the Medicine Hat Arena.  2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Jennifer Jones will debut with two-time Canadian junior champ Kaitlyn Lawes at third. Shannon Kleibrink will be there to defend the 2009 Canada Cup title along with Kelly Scott, Amber Holland, Stefanie Lawton and Krista McCarville. The full field will be announced on November 14. “The Canada Cup marks the third time Medicine Hat has had the privilege of hosting a Season of Champions curling event,” noted Des Grant, Chair of the organizing committee.  “But never before have we seen the best men’s and women’s teams in the country compete under one roof … our fans will see Olympic champions, national and world champions – all at a very “local” price.” That price is just $269 for the best seats in the house, for all five days of incredible action.  The “Big Ticket” is available now, guaranteeing your seat for all 15 draws. Along with big savings – at least 30% less than single draw walk-up prices at the time of the event – the Big Ticket features added benefits… including access to team Autograph Sessions, Up Close and Personal interviews and the world famous Keith’s Place – offering a great selection of food, beverages and a fabulous lineup of live entertainment. “In the world of curling, the Canada Cup truly is as good as it gets,” said Grant.
