Live from the Universiade! – Jan. 30

Monday, 31 January 2011 - Posted by Chadd Vandermade

Well it was a 3 win day for the Canadian curlers today. The girls beat Poland and China and the guys won 9-2 in 7 versus Norway (and yes they had “the pants”).

Canada's Women's Team from the University of Regina.

We controlled the match from the onset winning the draw to the button for hammer before blanking the fırst, taking 2 in the second followed by a steal of 4 when the Norwegian skip came up well light on a wide draw to the four foot. The game was never in questıon after this. It was a great bounce back game for us and much needed after yesterday. There were a few upsets in the matches today (at least in our minds) with the Czechs knocking off the Swiss and USA pounding Sweden in 6.

Standings after 4 games:

Korea 4-0
Swıtz. 3-1
Czechs 3-1
GB 3-1
Canada 2-2
USA 2-2
Sweden 2-2
Norway 1-3
Slovenıa 0-4
Turkey 0-4

Tomorrow we take on Sweden in the morning and Slovenia in the evening.

We got a chance to witness a medal today in short track speed skating as the mens 5km relay team won Silver after the Korean who were leadıng crashed with only 2 laps to go! After watching short track the past 2 days I have to say that it is definitely one of the most exciting sports to watch live! The ladies relay team came 4th coming just behind the Hungarians.

Thats all for today, its another early morning tomorrow!
