Manitoba’s McEwen Ready to Take the Next Big Step

The 2011 season proved to be a breakthrough year for Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen as he led his young team to within one win of their first shot at the Tim Hortons Brier.

McEwen finished in first place on the World Curling Tour and appeared to have Jeff Stoughton’s number all along the way.  However, when it came down to the final of the Manitoba provincial playdowns, it was Stoughton who moved on to win the Brier in London followed by the gold medal at the 2011 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Regina. But the McEwen team, ranked among the “next best” for the past several years, made it clear they’ll be serious contenders every time they take to the ice.  Sitting in second position in the Canadian Team Ranking System, McEwen earned a spot in the 2011 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling – returning with teammates B.J. Neufeld, Matt Wozniak and Denni Neufeld. Stoughton will be in the field as well – November 30th-December 4th in the Cranbrook Rec Plex – so fans can look forward to the renewal of what’s fast becoming one of the most entertaining rivalries in the game. “You Gotta Be There” to see Canada’s finest men’s and women’s teams competing for the first two berths in the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings.  Just click here to purchase your tickets today.
