Kingston Volunteers Hit the Farmer’s Market… to Market the Upcoming Scotties

Wednesday, 27 June 2012 - Posted by Graham Lloyd

Temperatures have been rising throughout southern Ontario, along with excitement for the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.  The Canadian Women’s Curling Championship makes its first trip to Kingston next February when the city hosts one of the coolest events of the year.

The Scotties promotional team braved the heat to take part in the Kingston Farmer’s Market, June 21 in Springer Square Market – the longest running community marketplace in the province.

Among the diverse assortment of booths offering locally-grown produce and crafts created by artisans from the Kingston region, visitors were greeted by Scotties volunteers who were on-site to promote the 2013 edition of one of the country’s most prestigious sports championships that will be contested in the K-Rock Centre February 16-24.

“It was great to be a part of such an historic event,” said Promotions Director Betty Bush.  “Everyone that comes out is just so committed to supporting local initiatives and that’s exactly what it takes to ensure the success of the Scotties… they’re definitely our kind of people.”

The volunteer team will be back on the job for the country’s biggest celebration of national pride when Canada Day festivities get underway July 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Confederation Park.  Everyone who visits the Scotties Tournament of Hearts booth is eligible to enter the free draw for a pair of Opening Weekend ticket packages.
