Saturday’s the Prime Time in Penticton to Talk Curling

Every Saturday morning throughout the summer, Penticton serves up a triple-header that’s proving to be a perfect place to promote the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling.

The city’s downtown comes alive with the Farmers’ Market, now in its 22nd year; the Community Market that returns for a fifth season; as well as Art Under the Trees that holds court in a small park next to the Court House.  The combination of the three events attracts in the neighborhood of 5,000 people each week to celebrate summer in the Okanagan Valley. “Our folks set up the Continental Cup booth at the Farmers’ Market, but it’s really a free-flowing atmosphere,” said Host Committee Chair Kim Kirkham.  “People wander around the whole area taking in everything that’s going on.  It’s just a great community event.” The Farmers’ Market offers the tastiest produce from the valley including a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, eggs, baking and preserves.  Art Under the Trees showcases the creativity of local artisans. And, the Community Market – helping raise funds and awareness for local non-profit groups – could feature belly dancers, rap artists or home baking… you never know for sure because the lineup changes every week. The World Financial Group Continental Cup volunteers were there June 30th to let everyone know that one of international curling’s elite events will be coming to the South Okanagan Events Centre January 10-13, 2013.  The promotions team will be back on the scene July 21st for another morning at the market. “We hope people drop by to see us,” said Kirkham.  “It’s just a great time when the community comes together to enjoy summer in our beautiful city.  And, when you’re there make sure to enter the draw for a pair of Full Event passes to see the best curlers in the world!” Volunteers who would like to be part of the World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling booth at the Saturday markets can register by calling December Foster at 778-476-6063 or by email at [email protected]. “You Gotta Be There” in the South Okanagan Events Centre for the ninth edition of the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup.   If you’re not lucky enough to win an event pass at the market… you can purchase one by clicking here.
