Working the Weekends for the 2013 Scotties

Summer weekends in Canada offer a welcome opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the balmy weather… or take in one of our countless outdoor festivals and fairs.  But that’s not always the case for Scotties volunteers because it’s also a prime time to promote one of the premiere curling championships of the upcoming season next February in Kingston. The Scotties volunteers have been working the crowds at a wide range of events throughout the summer months and the schedule just keeps getting busier every week. August 4th found the dedicated volunteers in downtown Kingston, teaming up with Rock Solid Productions to let people know about the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and provide hands-on instruction of the game.  Visitors had the chance to throw a curling rock on a 70-foot sheet of artificial ice set up on the Princess Street Promenade. The following day they were back on the job in Confederation Park along with media partner CORUS Radio to meet the finishers of the K-Town Triathlon, distributing Scotties golf tees, ball markers and magnets. Over the August 10-11 weekend the promotions team was on the scene for the 1000 Islands Poker Run when the city played host to more than 150 powerboats from across North America.  Along with the excitement of the races the event takes on a festival-like atmosphere with live entertainment, attracting over 14,000 spectators each year. Next up for the Scotties crew is the 16th annual Limestone City Blues Festival August 23-26 featuring the very best of the blues.  Performances take place on the Princess Street Stage, in Confederation Park and at various venues in the downtown district – capped off by a concert in Market Square. “You Gotta Be There” for the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts February 16-24 in the K-Rock Centre.  Make sure you’re there for the entire week, including championship weekend, by clicking here to purchase a Full Event pass.
