Epping Building on Momentum of a Breakthrough Season

When John Epping steps on the ice in Moose Jaw for the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup, he’s hoping to start off the new curling season the same way he finished the last one – with a victory celebration. The Ontario skip, with a support cast that includes David Mathers, Scott Howard and Scott Bailey, drew the button with last rock to defeat Glenn Howard in the final of the 2012 Players’ Championship in April. Entering the competition as the lowest seed in the eight-team field, Epping also knocked off Kevin Martin in the semifinal on the way to the championship.  The win came with enough Canadian Team Ranking System points to move them into the number five spot and qualify for this year’s Capital One Canada Cup. Epping’s first appearance on the national stage came as skip of Team Ontario in the 2004 Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championship.  Two years later he led the province to gold at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. After throwing third stones for Olympic silver medalist Mike Harris during the 2007 season and then Wayne Middaugh the following two years, he moved on to skip his own squad in 2010. “You Gotta Be There” for the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling, November 28-December 2 in Moose Jaw’s Mosaic Place.  Excellent seats are available in the new state-of-the-art complex by clicking here.
