Team Howard Good as Gold in 2012
Glenn Howard’s Ontario sharpshooters are coming to the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling – November 28-December 2 in Moose Jaw’s Mosaic Place – with golden memories of the past Season of Champions.
After winning the 2012 Tim Hortons Brier in Saskatoon, the team travelled on to Basel, Switzerland to represent Canada at the World Men’s Curling Championship. In the span of just four weeks they topped the podium twice for the gold medal ceremonies.
Howard also holds the distinction of being the only non-Alberta skip to win the men’s side of the Canada Cup championship in event history, taking the trophy east in 2010.
A veteran of 14 Canadian Men’s Curling Championships, seven throwing third stones for brother Russ, he has four Brier titles to his credit and seven second-place finishes. Since moving to the helm, he has skipped Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier for the past seven consecutive years beginning in 2006.
In four trips to the World Men’s Curling Championship Howard has a perfect record, winning gold every time – twice each at the third and skip positions.
Last season’s success also came with the Canadian Team Ranking System points required to qualify the team, including Wayne Middaugh, Brent Laing and Craig Savill, for the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Winnipeg and another chance to shoot for Olympic gold. Howard lost to Kevin Martin in the championship final of the 2009 Canadian Curling Trials in Edmonton.
