Quebec vs. Ontario Semi Final

The last draw of the round robin portion of the 2013 Canadian Mixed concluded this morning with little at stake except final ranking for each province and territory. Ontario’s Cory Heggestad and his Orillia based team of Heather Graham, Greg Balsdon and Amy Mackay will face home town favourite Mike Fournier. The Quebec foursome of Fournier, Alanna Routledge, Mike Kennedy and Joëlle St.-Hilaire finished the round robin last night losing to Ontario. Their round robin record is 8-3. Heggestad played Saskatchewan’s Jeff Hartung this morning and while the game would not have changed the playoff scenarios, a win by Ontario would add benefits in terms of hammer and stone selection in the playoffs.  A count of four in the 2nd end and a deuce in the 4th allowed Heggestad to coast to an 8-4 victory conceded after 8 ends. In other morning games, NB’s James Grattan defeated BC’s Tom Buchy 10-4, Manitoba’s Terry McNamee defeated Northern Ontario’s Mike Assad 8-4 and Alberta’s Kurt Balderston beat NWT’s Nick Saturnino 10-3. Tonight’s semi final will be played at 7:30pm EST featuring Ontario and Quebec. The winner will meet Nova Scotia in the final, Saturday at 2:00pm EST. Both games will be played at the TMR Curling Club. Real time results can be found at www.curling.ca and live streaming at www.canadianmixed.com. The final round robin standings are: Nova Scotia (9-2) Ontario (9-2) Quebec (8-3) New Brunswick (7-4) Saskatchewan (6-5) Northern Ontario (6-5) PEI (5-6) Alberta (5-6) BC (5-6) Manitoba (4-7) NWT (2-9) Yukon (0-11)
