Two teams lock up spots for the Tim Hortons Brier

The second qualifier for the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier – March 2-10 in Edmonton’s Rexall Place – was decided Sunday, January 27 in Victoriaville, Quebec. Jean-Michel Ménard, 2006 Brier champ, booked a seventh trip to the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship with a single in the last end of the provincial final to down Philippe Lemay by a 7-6 count.

The Ménard team, including Martin Crête, Éric Sylvain and Philippe Ménard, was the most consistent all week, finishing on top of the round robin standings with an 8-1 record. The first berth in the 2013 Brier came in the Northwest Territories/Yukon playdowns where Jamie Koe also earned a seventh shot at the national title, including appearances at the past five in a row.  He will be joined in Edmonton by teammates Tom Naugler, Brad Chorostowski and Rob Borden.
