Team Canada got a Parliament Hill sendoff on Tuesday in preparation for its trip to Riga, Latvia, for the 2013 World Women’s Curling Championship.
Rachel Homan’s team from Ottawa, which won its first Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian Women’s Curling Championship on Feb. 24 in Kingston, Ont., was saluted in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk, lead Lisa Weagle and assistant coach Natalie Durand-Bush also met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and presented him with a team broom.
The newly crowned Canadian champs (alternate Stephanie LeDrew and coach Earle Morris round out the team) will depart for Latvia early next week and play their first game against Scotland’s Eve Muirhead on March 16 at 1 p.m. EST on TSN.
