The 2012 European Curling Championships in Karlstad, Sweden proved to be an historic event for the Czech Republic.
The Czech team, skipped by Jiří Snítil, won the country’s first medal in a major curling championship with a decisive eight-end victory over Denmark’s Rasmus Stjerne in the bronze-medal game.
After losing 6-4 to Thomas Ulsrud of Norway in the semifinal, Snítil’s team regrouped to avenge the loss to Stjerne in the bronze-medal match at the 2011 championships.
The Czechs will be on their way to Victoria at the end of the month for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, March 30-April 7 in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Snitil has appeared at the world championship five times in the past six years. The Czech team is rounded out by third Martin Snítil, second Jindřich Kitzberger and lead Marek Vydra.
