Balsdon hits the road to the Olympics

Greg Balsdon will lead one of the 10 Ontario squads in the 24-team field at the 2013 Capital One Road to the Roar, presented by Monsanto, the qualifying event for this December’s Canadian Curling Trials. With such a strong contingent of Ontario curlers competing in the Pre-Trials event, Nov. 5-10 in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex, it’s also taken on the alias of “ROARTARIO”. Balsdon is coming off a season where his team – with Mark Bice at third and a front-end rotation including Tyler Morgan, Steve Bice and Jamie Farnell – finished 14th in the Canadian Team Ranking System to secure a spot in Pre-Trials play. It was also a year that saw him win his first national title, throwing second stones for Cory Heggestad at the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. In 2011, Balsdon made it to the final of the Ontario Tankard playdowns, where he lost to Glenn Howard, and earned the silver medal at The Dominion Curling Club Championship. Playing out of the Loonie Sports Club in Elgin, Ont., the Balsdon team will be shooting for the one of the final two men’s berths at the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, presented by Monsanto, Dec. 1-8 in Winnipeg. “You Gotta Be There” for the excitement of live championship when some of Canada’s top competitive curlers chase down the dream of wearing Canada’s colours in the 2014 Olympic Games.
