Jacobs sitting on top of the world

Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. has been knocking on the door in the competitive curling world since 2007, when he first represented Northern Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier. The initial signs of a breakthrough came in Halifax, where he won the bronze medal at the 2010 Brier, finishing second in the round robin, and eventually bowing out to Kevin Koe in the semifinal match. It was in his sixth appearance at the Canadian men’s curling championship, last March, that Jacobs truly solidified a spot in the ranks of curling’s elite, with a decisive victory over Jeff Stoughton in the gold-medal game. The Jacobs squad, with Ryan Fry at third and brothers E.J. and Ryan Harnden anchoring the front end, carried their momentum over to the new season, winning the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Winnipeg, and the right to represent Canada in Sochi. And they did it with precision and style, posting the first undefeated record in the history of the Canadian Curling Trials, dating back to 1997. Now the Jacobs team, arguably one of the hottest on the international scene, is preparing for another first, as part of Team North America for the 2014 World Financial Group Continental Cup, Jan. 16-19 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. “You Gotta Be There” for the 10th edition of the World Financial Group Continental Cup, featuring 12 of the best teams in the world – including nine that will be on the ice this February in Sochi.
