In the New Brunswick Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial playdowns, Jan. 8-12 in Saint John, Andrea Crawford earned a seventh trip to the Canadian women’s curling championship.
A victory over Sylvie Robichaud in the final gave Crawford her sixth consecutive New Brunswick title, and a spot in the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts of Hearts, Feb. 1-9 in Montreal.
The two teams traded deuces over the final four ends, with Crawford scoring two in the 10th end for an 8-7 win. The three-time representative for New Brunswick at the Canadian junior women’s championship, including a gold-medal performance in 2005, will lead teammates Rebecca Atkinson, Danielle Parsons and Jodie DeSolla into Montreal’s Maurice-Richard Arena.
There’s added incentive for the Crawford team at this year Scotties, with the potential to wear Team Canada colours in front of a hometown crowd at the 2014 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, March 15-23 in Saint John.
Robichaud skipped Team New Brunswick at the 2008 Scotties, as well as the 2012 Canadian mixed curling championship, where she lost in the semifinal.
