Yellowknife Ready To Light It Up!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday, but in some 48 days it will be Kick Off Thursday for the Canadian Senior Curling Championships.  The teams competing in the 2014 Canadian Senior Men’s and Ladies Curling Championship will have all arrived in Yellowknife and play will have begun to determine the final two teams for each of the Championships. women-gold-medalsThe host committee has been busy planning for everyone’s arrival.  We are excited to be hosting a CCA national championship in the Northwest Territories for the first time.  We are thrilled to be showing off our Territory and revealing the many wonders of our community and of course showing off the Yellowknife Curling Center. We know over the next three to four weeks teams will be declared by their provincial/territorial curling associations and we are internet watching to see who will be coming to challenge for the National title and an opportunity to represent Canada at the Worlds. The host committee is busy lining up northern entertainment for the “Polar Vortex” as well as providing a truly Northern Event.  The Hay River, Fort Smith and Inuvik Curling Club’s will be participating in our event as well by each hosting an evening of entertainment in the Polar Vortex.  Each of these communities will bring the flavours and entertainment from their region to allow our visitors an opportunity to truly experience the North. Just the other night we were treated to a showing of the Northern Lights and we are anticipating that the weather will cooperate for our visitors and we will have a fabulous showing of the Northern Lights for the end of March. Tomorrow we are hosting a Statisticians Clinic with approximately 30 people signed up.  People continue to sign up and volunteer every day. The excitement is growing in Yellowknife and we can’t wait to greet our guests!
