Volunteers Push Capital One Canada Cup Over the Top!

The rallying cry around Moose Jaw over the past several months has been “You Gotta Be There!” for the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling.  And the community responded in a big way, establishing a new attendance record for the ten-year history of the event.

 
Stoughton wins Men’s Final at Capital One Canada Cup

Jeff Stoughton can heave a sigh of relief. With his 4-3 victory over Glenn Howard in the men’s final of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling, he not only wins the event for the first time, but he also secures himself a spot in the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in his hometown Winnipeg.

 
Lawton wins third Capital One Canada Cup of Curling

Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton has secured her place in the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings after defeating Team Jones, skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes, 6-4 in front of a record-breaking Saskatchewan crowd in the Women’s Final of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling on Sunday morning.

Team Jones, with Kaitlyn Lawes skipping, will play Stefanie Lawton in the final of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling after defeating Heather Nedohin by a score of 9-5 in an exciting women’s semi final Saturday afternoon.

 
McEwen takes tiebreaker over Koe

Mike McEwen bounced back from two losses on the last day of round robin play, defeating Kevin Koe 9-7 in a tiebreaker, moving on to meet Glenn Howard in the men’s semi final of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling.

Stoughton, Lawton to Finals; Tie breaker for Koe, McEwen

Jeff Stoughton and Stefanie Lawton are through to Sunday’s finals of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling thanks to their 5-1 records at the top of the leaderboard. The rest of the men’s field will be determined on Saturday morning when Kevin Koe plays Mike McEwen in the men’s tie-breaker, with the winner meeting Glenn Howard in the semi-final. On the women’s side, Heather Nedohin and Team Jones (Kaitlyn Lawes) will meet in the other semi-final.

With only one draw remaining, Cathy Overton-Clapham and Kevin Koe handed Stefanie Lawton and Mike McEwen their first losses of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling.
