Jeff Stoughton earned a record tenth Manitoba title with a victory over Sean Grassie in the final of the men’s provincial curling playdowns, Feb. 10 in Neepawa.
The Andrew Bilesky team from the Royal City Curling Club got hot at the right time in the British Columbia provincial playdowns to secure the west coast berth in the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier – the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship – March 2-10 in Edmonton.
Kevin Martin has carried Alberta’s hopes to the Brier more often than any other curler in the history of the sport in the western province. But this year’s trip to the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship will be among the most memorable.
Provincial play in Ontario, on the road to the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier, finished up Feb. 10 and the results were as most expected, with a pair of veteran teams returning to the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship.
Canada’s best curlers will show off their individual shot-making skills for the 19th straight year in the Ford Hot Shots skills competition at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kingston, Ont., and the Tim Hortons Brier, presented by Monsanto, in Edmonton.
