Undefeated teams Mike McEwen and Stefanie Lawton won in extra ends to keep the momentum rolling on the second day of round robin play at the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling in Moose Jaw.
The standings are beginning to take shape after Draw 3 of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup, with four teams – Jones, Lawton, Stoughton and McEwen – remaining undefeated, and four – Howard, Gushue, Carey and Overton-Clapham – still looking for their first win.
After a big 10-4 win this morning over Sherry Middaugh, Stefanie Lawton notched another one against 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Heather Nedohin. Tied 1-1 after four ends, Lawton applied the pressure in five. Nedohin came up short on her draw on the last rock of the end, and Lawton scored 4 to take a 5-1 lead into the break – and give the hometown Saskatchewan fans something to cheer about.
In a highly successful career in competitive curling, spanning more than two decades, Cathy Overton-Clapham has firmly established the reputation as one of the clutch thirds in the history of the game.
The women’s final of the 2011 Capital One Canada Cup came down to a battle between two Manitoba rivals – Jennifer Jones and Chelsea Carey – with Jones coming out on top to claim a second championship title.
