The Scotties Tournament of Hearts is coming to Kingston, and one of its biggest fans can’t wait. He’s a competitive curler, a fundraiser for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, as well as the author of a blog devoted to this year’s Scotties. He’ll also be marching onto the ice at the K-Rock Centre as one of the event’s Junior Stars. Meet Bilal Islam, age 13, and hooked on curling.
Paul Webster is the Curling Director at The Glencoe Club in Calgary. He does “a fair bit of coaching” in this sport, but he also has valuable insights from a club program perspective. Currently in his second year of working with the membership of The Glencoe Club, Webster shares his personal perspective on what is undoubtedly his club’s most successful program.
As the curling season approaches, new curlers are being introduced to the game at clubs across the county. On Tuesday morning, The Ottawa Curling Club hosted a special Learn-to-Curl session: under the watchful eye of OCC Curling Professional Earle Morris, The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), took to the ice, joined by local high-performance curlers Craig Savill, Rachel Homan, Alison Kreviazuk, Emma Miskew and Lisa Weagle.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a curler on the planet who’s more used to curling in the glare of the spotlight than John Morris.
