Jeff Stoughton and Stefanie Lawton are through to Sunday’s finals of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling thanks to their 5-1 records at the top of the leaderboard. The rest of the men’s field will be determined on Saturday morning when Kevin Koe plays Mike McEwen in the men’s tie-breaker, with the winner meeting Glenn Howard in the semi-final. On the women’s side, Heather Nedohin and Team Jones (Kaitlyn Lawes) will meet in the other semi-final.
With only one draw remaining, Cathy Overton-Clapham and Kevin Koe handed Stefanie Lawton and Mike McEwen their first losses of the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling.
Undefeated teams Mike McEwen and Stefanie Lawton won in extra ends to keep the momentum rolling on the second day of round robin play at the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling in Moose Jaw.
After a big 10-4 win this morning over Sherry Middaugh, Stefanie Lawton notched another one against 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts winner Heather Nedohin. Tied 1-1 after four ends, Lawton applied the pressure in five. Nedohin came up short on her draw on the last rock of the end, and Lawton scored 4 to take a 5-1 lead into the break – and give the hometown Saskatchewan fans something to cheer about.
In the history of the Canada Cup Alberta teams have clearly dominated the men’s side of the championship, winning in eight of the nine competitions. Kevin Koe is hoping to add one more for the Wild Rose province November 28-December 2 at the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling in Moose Jaw.
