Twelve years ago, Winnipeg’s Eric Dawson and his friend Kevin Wiebe were thinking about doing something fun to spruce up the curling season in Winnipeg – something like, say, taking it outside and playing on the Assiniboine River. But the idea remained just that – a vague idea – until 2000, when Dawson’s father-in-law passed away unexpectedly as the result of a heart attack.
They may have come into the final as the underdog, but Manitoba’s Meghan Armit took advantage of some key misses by Ontario to defeat Jodi McCutcheon by a score of 8-6.
The top two teams in the Women’s draw of The Dominion Curling Club Championship will face off for the title Saturday afternoon in Richmond, B.C.
Saskatchewan’s Patricia Yeske and her team of Danielle Sicinski, Pamela Clothier and Leslie Glova captured the last semi-final spot in the Women’s competition with a victory over Sylvye Turgeon’s Quebec squad on Friday night.
When the dust settled, the scene was set for just one tie-breaker game in the women’s field at The Dominion Curling Club Championship in Richmond, B.C.
