The picturesque Town of Greater Napanee is located in the County of Lennox & Addington, in the heart of Eastern Ontario, offering a quality of life that few other communities can compare. It offers a relaxed, rural lifestyle without sacrificing the first class amenities of larger cities. Greater Napanee has an abundance of scenic and beautiful waterfront to offer visitors. Its downtown core is situated on the beautiful Napanee River, further south its shores hug the Bay of Quinte and Hay Bay renowned for its Walleye fishing. This is Loyalist country and the prosperity of the past can be seen in the many heritage buildings that have been so carefully preserved.
To the south, Loyalist Township offers a great mixture of country lifestyle and urban opportunity. The Loyalist Parkway (Highway #33) is a quiet 40 km stretch of road between the Parkway’s Eastern Gateway in Amherstview and the Glenora Ferry at Adolphustown that is dotted with countless 18th and 19th Century homesteads, major historical sites and tourist attractions.
Directly to the east, Stone Mills Township is home to prime agricultural lands, conservation areas, streams, lakes, and rivers. The gently rolling hills contain charming farm communities and prime recreational land ideal for hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, and boating.
To the north, Addington Highlands is a natural playground for lovers of the great outdoors. The area is home to over 100 lakes, rivers and streams that are perfect for fishing, canoeing, and other water-related activities. In the winter, some of these waterways provide links to hundreds of kilometres of snowmobiling trails.

Sport Tourism in the Community
Napanee is a true Canadian sports town. The men and women here have been active their whole lives, and their kids were practically born with either baseball bats, hockey sticks or curling brooms in their hands.
Everyone is out and about in the spring and summer months. A warm-weather highlight in town is fastball at the fairgrounds. The stands are packed with people watching the Napanee Express win provincial and National championships on what seems to be an annual basis. If it isn’t fastball, its slo-pitch, or swimming, or soccer, or horseback riding, or fishing, or golf – the list goes on and on. Our roadways are enjoyed by countless cycling enthusiasts that take full advantage of our award winning County Trails network.
There’s always something to do or watch in our great outdoors. The fall and winter is spent by most of us at the rink, whether it be the hockey rink, curling rink, backyard rink, or all of the above. Everyone participates – even our own Avril Lavigne laced ‘em up for the NDSS Hawks high school hockey team. Our Napanee Raiders have won the Empire Jr. C title many times and routinely pack the building, especially when the rival Amherstview Jets come calling. The local curling club is hopping from September to April, and as long as there’s 8 inches of ice on Hay Bay, the shanties are strategically placed over the hottest fishing spots.
It just keeps getting better for our sporting enthusiasts! Local residents not only get to watch their hometown heroes’ play, but also Canada’s finest athletes. We’ve hosted 4 Canadian Fastball Championships, and in 2008 the National Women’s Under-18 Hockey Championship captivated audiences. The 2010 Ontario Men’s Curling Championship was hosted here in Napanee has been the largest and most successful event the town has hosted to date. The M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors will definitely give the Tankard a run for their money!
What’s next you ask? You can bet that the dedicated folks from Napanee are already working on new bids to host another great sporting event. If and when it happens, you can be rest assured that it will be well-received by the community’s sports enthusiasts!
